Categories of ČAPEK Tournaments

Regional

Regional tournament is a type of event attended mainly by local teams, although anyone can participate. Even players with no license or certified boules can play. These tournaments are usually accompanied by relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The organizer of class Regional tournament can choose any game system recognized by ČAPEK. Sometimes, various skill side competitions are held during or after the tournament. Regional tournaments are both sport and social events, they are usually of a smaller scale and do not last into the late evening.


Prestige

The category Prestige is reserved for tournaments that historically have achieved high sporting quality or there is a reason to believe the sporting qulaity will be high. Tournaments in this category are determined and selected at the beginning of each season. Prestige tournaments usually involve players from all over the Czech Republic and sometimes even neighboring countries. Players from top fifty of the Czech national rankings are regularly participating. These tournaments are closed to those who do not own a license issued by association recognized by FIPJP. It is also required to use certified boules. Czech Association of Pétanque Clubs delegates a referee, who is not playing and is overseeing the competition. Like the Regional, the organizer has the right to choose any game system recognized by ČAPEK. Organizer is also encouraged to allocate a certain percentage of the entry fee to the prize money for the winning teams. Prestige tournaments are primarily sporting events.


Superprestige

Superprestige is very similar to Prestige category. Every year, it is assigned to one or two tournaments, where participation of strong foreign teams is expected. These tournaments are closed to those who do not own a license issued by association recognized by FIPJP. It is also required to use certified boules. Czech Association of Pétanque Clubs delegates a referee, who is not playing and is overseeing the competition. As in previous cases, the organizer has the right to choose any game system recognized by ČAPEK, but a significant percentage of the entry fee must be allocated to the prize money for the winning teams. Superprestige is a strictly sports event.


Championship

Czech Republic Championship is a special category of tournaments that has clearly defined structure. These tournaments are dedicated exclusively to players with Czech license. Only boules certified for international competitions can be used. The winners of Championship are awarded the title Champions of the Czech Republic and in several categories, the winners become Czech national team for the next year, with possibility to represent the Czech Republic at the World or European Championship. Organizer is chosen by Sports and Technical Committee (STC), which also determines the game system. Non playing referee for the tournament is delegated by the Judges Committee (JC). Championship is a purely sporting event, where the consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited. All semi-finalists must pass a breath test. There are altogether nine Championship categories: men, women, juniors, 55+, triples, doubles, individuals, mixed doubles and shooting.


Centrope Cup

Series of tournaments Centrope Cup comprises a special category of ČAPEK tournaments, with slightly different rules based on agreements between participating countries - see Centrope Cup.
